Xris, I believe they are sandhills. Our next door neighbor mentioned seeing them out back during migration season, but we hadn't seen any in the fall. These are the first, and well worth the wait.
Hey, Mark - All you have to do is sit outside in freezing weather to get great birds. I had to get a new job, sell my house, and move halfway across the country to a state that thinks it's spring just because there are cracks in the ice.
